One Act Comedy

Production Dates: Provisionally 28 April – 3 May 2014.
“This fresh adaptation of the story by Mark Twain is a hilarious exploration of the relationship between men and women. Lonely and bored, Adam is sent Eve, an inquisitive woman with a flair for giving Earth's creatures their proper names. And though inarticulate Adam would rather play with rocks than talk to Eve, he eventually discovers a newfound appreciation for her as they weather expulsion from Eden and become new parents.”

Learn Directing, Camerawork, Editing, Scriptwriting, and other production skills, as well as gain practical experience.
Matriculants, Technology or Arts graduates that are unemployed and available for a period of 12 months are encouraged to apply.
This Learnership will lead to the accredited qualification: National Certificate: Film & Television Production (NQF5)
Successful applicants will have their tuition fees paid and will receive a monthly stipend. Learners should be able to travel to Durban daily.

Applications are invited for various internship positions at Catalina UnLtd / Catalina Theatre that will include the following fields: marketing and sales, theatre administration & box office, maintenance and technical (sound and lighting), directing and producing. A tertiary qualification in the appropriate field would be advantageous, alternatively, 1-3 years’ experience in the chosen field.

Call for applications for funding 2014: Arts Projects and International Bursaries
The National Arts Council hereby invites individuals and registered arts organisations in the performing arts (theatre, dance, music and multi-discipline) to submit their applications for project funding.
Closing date: 28 February 2014
Outcomes date: 31 May 2014
Applications are invited for projects of national significance that are involved in the creation of new works, arts development, arts promotion, facilitate access to the arts and markets. Furthermore, applications that have a strong community base and have been conceived in collaboration with others working in similar fields will be preferable. Projects that celebrate the 20 years anniversary of freedom and democracy are also encouraged to apply. Please note that projects involved in Literature, Visual Arts and Crafts will be invited during the course of the year.
Post-graduate students wishing to pursue arts studies abroad in the fields of Craft, Dance, Literature, Multi-discipline, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts are also invited to apply. Students willing to access NAC funding should be prepared to return to and work in South Africa to support the development of the arts in the country.
Conditions for acceptance of applications:
- All relevant sections of the application form must be filled in completely;
- All requested documentation must be submitted with the application form;
- Applications must be submitted on or before 28 February 2014.
This invitation is also open to arts organisations and individuals that support the involvement of women, youth and people living with disabilities.

Hundreds of young musicians are expected to apply to audition for a place in the prestigious South African National Youth Orchestra.
This year the Foundation boasts a whole series of Nationals courses and programmes for young orchestral musicians between the ages of 13 and 25 that have attained a minimum Grade 6 music level. The courses help to equip young people with the skills to perform in a professional musical environment, and introduce them to a necessary network of fellow musicians. In the orchestra’s big celebration year they will be performing in the pit for Vuyani Dance Theatre’s 15th anniversary production “Full Moon” in April/May in Johannesburg, then the National Youth Wind Orchestra will gather in Durban in June/July for the Sasol Winter Course and in December the National Youth Orchestra for 2014 will play alongside National Youth Orchestra alumni spanning its five decades, starting in Stellenbosch and Cape Town and doing a tour of South Africa.
The orchestra has appeared on stage with some of the worlds’ best, among them Sir Roger Norrington, Gérard Korsten, Judith Sephuma and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The Archbishop had this to say about the orchestra, “Music is important in the lives of young people, it is rare not to see a young person engrossed in music. The National Youth Orchestra is important because it opens up another world of music to the youth. It allows them to become makers of the music not just listeners. Youth in South Africa have so many opportunities available to them and my hope is that they are able to engage themselves fully in these opportunities.”
To make the courses open to all who wish to attend, bursaries, scholarships and payment plans are available. Applications are now open, and can be completed online on their website at
