ALUTA FILM FESTIVAL 2015

Monday 01 September 2014 
The organisers of the ALUTA FILM FESTIVAL, South Africa's premier African and Diasporan cinema event, are calling for entries from South African and International filmmakers for 2015, the 11th edition of the film festival. 
The 2015 film festival edition will be hosted on the 26th till 28th February 2015 in Mbombela City (Nelspruit) in the Mpumalanga Province - South Africa
Submissions MUST be from filmmakers of all races and nationalities who have produced films that embrace BLACK experiences worldwide and/or experiences of marginalized communities from across the globe.
Submissions MUST be from filmmakers from all over the world with special emphasis on BLACK cinema (films that explores and highlights diverse perspectives of African and Diasporan communities around the world).

Aluta Film Festival accepts features, documentaries and short films in the genres/sub-genres of drama, action, thriller, comedy, animation and factual.
Filmmakers MUST guarantee, should their film be selected, that permission from the rights holder is secured for a minimum of four screenings at the 11th annual Aluta Film Festival 2015. 
Filmmakers are requested to submit 2X DVD PAL screeners of their films and a brief filmmaker biography for viewing by our panel, upon viewing – all selected filmmakers will be forwarded the official application details as well as all festival regulations. Please note that no screeners will be returned.
Online entries are also accepted _ filmmakers wishing to make online submissions MUST indicate their interest to do so via email at info@bushcoffee.co.za by Friday 14 November 2014

This year, the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards celebrate 20 years of democracy and mark the 20^th anniversary of Vodacom. It’s a double celebration, both of journalistic excellence and communication facilitated by Vodacom. During this period, journalists covered stories with global reach and significance, requiring in depth research to bring their stories to life.

Convenor of the judging panel, Mary Papayya said: “Once again, the judging process was filled with vigorous debate, and I thank the judges for the critical and concise decision making they committed themselves to. The work we saw was excellent and we hope to see continued growth and momentum for the Vodacom Awards.”

This year, 967 entries were received in the 12 categories: CSI/Sustainability, Editor’s Choice, Financial/Economic, Online, Photography, Print Feature, Print News, Radio Feature, Radio News, Sport, Television Feature and Television News. This was an increase on last year where 830 entries were received. This year, the Print Feature category received the most entries, with 211 journalists vying for the title.

Maya Makanjee, Chief Officer for Corporate Affairs at Vodacom Group said: “I would like to thank the panel of judges for their sterling work during the judging process.

“This year’s judging panel comprised experts in their fields, and I would like to thank Elna Rossouw, Mary Papayya, Collin Nxumalo, Arthur Goldstuck, Johann de Wet, Joe Thloloe, Ryland Fisher, Megan Rusi, and Patricia McCracken, who made their time and expertise available to us,” said Makanjee.

Regional winners for the KwaZulu-Natal Region were announced at a function at the Protea Hotel Umhlanga Ridge, Durban. 

Regional winners will each take home R5 000 and travel to Johannesburg for the national finals on 31 October 2014.

1. Audition: Rainbow / PANSA Young Performers Project 2014
Directed by Themi Venturas, the 13th annual PANSA Rainbow Young Performers Production for 2014 is Footloose – which re-unites Daisy Spencer (Choreographer) and Des Govender (Vocal Coach) the team that brought us Hairspray and Legally Blonde.

Auditions will take place on 26 April 2014
at Durban High School from 09h00 – 17h00.

We are looking for 30 talented young performers [High School learners only] from KZN -
Footloose has approximately 13 parts for males and 14 parts for females.
We will also be seeking musicians to make up the ‘live’ band.
Applicants must be in able to sing, dance and act
Applicants must be available for rehearsal every weekend from
16 May – 22 June 2014

Previews and Performances are from 28 June to 13 July 2014.
Applicants must be available for the whole audition to qualify
Applicants must wear comfortable clothing / gym gear and appropriate footwear
Applicants are to bring their own refreshments – water / juice and lunch
Applicants must be prepared to wait between calls

2.  Vacancy: Dance company administrator

Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre (SSDT) is a professional award-winning dance theatre company based in Durban. Since its inception in 1994, the SSDT has become one of the leading dance companies in South Africa, producing and touring work nationally and internationally.

Siwela Sonke seeks a new Company Administrator to join our team. The post plays a pivotal role in the smooth and efficient running of Siwela Sonke’s day to day operations and the successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively with the Permanent Company and Artistic Director, Jay Pather.

PRESENTATION:
A series of workshops presented by training facilitators for the Artscape Technical Training Academy (ATTA) on key technical and production matters relating to the Production Process of Theatre.
The workshops are aimed at any person who would like to gain insight to and a working knowledge of the various technical and production processes when placing a performance in front of an audience. You may choose to do all the workshops or just the ones that appeal to you. The focus areas of these workshops will be:

• The Technical Production Process (2 sessions): 2 and 16 April 2014
• The Production Management Process : 30 April 2014
• The Stage Management Process: 14 May 2014
• The Performance Lighting requirements: 28 May 2014
• The Performance Sound requirements: 11 June 2014

The newly opened Galloway Theatre, situated within The Waterfront Theatre College Campus, has opened up its programming for the second half of 2014.

The Galloway Theatre seats an average of 70 seats and has potential for 3 different configurations:  End on, In the Round and Stage Platform.  The newly refurbished space is a converted chapel attached to The Mission to Seamen building where The Waterfront Theatre College has been resident since 1992.

Situated at the entrance to the V&A Waterfront, The Galloway Theatre provides an accessible platform to both emerging and established companies to showcase work.
