Opportunity for a Young MC


Hunt for talented MC to host awards underway

The search for a dynamic young presenter who will emcee the 7th ACT | DALRO | 
Nedbank Scholarships finale is underway. 

The countrywide series of auditions will kick off in June. This will be done alongside 
the search for the top six young performers who will be eligible to win one of three 
scholarships, with a combined value of R315 000, to go towards their tuition fees 
for a performing arts qualification at any accredited South African tertiary institution.
The seventh edition of Magic in the Making awards – set to take place at the 
Market Theatre in Johannesburg’s Newtown Precinct on 12 October 2015 – 
will have a showcase by the six finalists to a live audience and an independent 
panel of judges. The production’s variety show format will not only allow the participants
 to deliver enchanting pieces in dance, singing and acting but also have the 
charismatic presenter bring all the acts together into a seamless performance for 
the audience and judges to enjoy.

MC search auditions will take place on the same dates as the auditions for the 
Scholarships themselves. There is no registration fee, and participants can register

Closing date for the MC registrations is 19 June 2015 and all 
registered individuals will be 
supplied with audition material and necessary details.

  • 30 June and 1 July: Durban (KwaZulu-Natal)
  • 3 and 4 July: Cape Town (Western Cape)
  • 6, 7 and 8 July: Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape)
  • 15 July: Pretoria (Gauteng)
  • 16 and 17 July: Johannesburg (Gauteng)
  • 24 July: Kimberley (Northern Cape)
  • 25 July: Bloemfontein (Free State)
  • 28 July: Potchefstroom (North West)
  • 30 July: Witbank (Mpumalanga)
  • 01 August: Polokwane (Limpopo)
The deadline for registrations for the Performing Arts Scholarships Programme 
have been extended to this Friday, 5 June 2015.

Looking for professional and established contract musicians and vocalists for 3 very exclusive corporate events in August. These events are in and around Johannesburg, so candidates based in Gauteng are preferred.
You will need to submit a short recent CV, a showreel or some mp3 clips of your recent work, and a head shot.

* string quartet (light classical/pop);
* 1 x black female gospel vocalist (ideal candidate must be charismatic and familiar with traditional African gospel);
* 1 x black female opera singer (light classical soprano - must be able to sing in English and Setswana);
* 1 x black female vocalist (soprano - must be stylistically versatile and be familiar with and able to cover jazz/Broadway/pop genres);

Jakob
Seabrooks Theatre, DHS: 18 - 29 June
Jakob is a different boy and different isn’t good in the world in which he lives.  But in this beautiful, sensitive piece, actor Bryan Hiles portrays this unusual and endearing character and we find out just how ‘different’ can be unique and special. Follow this unusual boy’s journey from loathing and fear to one of light and unconditional love, and find your hearts being warmed, softened and lightened. 
Jakob is a modern day fable, a story of light and darkness, love and hate and redemption adapted from the short story written by Michael Broderick and beautifully crafted and lit by Michael Broderick. 
It runs from 18 - 29 June at the DHS Seabrooks Theatre nightly at 7.30pm, opening onWednesday 18 and running until Sunday 29. Wed to Sat at 19h30 and Sun at 18h00. No shows on Mon or Tues. Guitarist / songwriter Nibs Van Der Spuy is hedging up to his half century and has clocked up decades of experience in the performance field. He will be in KZN on the last weekend of June, performing two concerts sponsored by Concerts SA, a joint South African/Norwegian initiative which supports venues and artists in South Africa by creating sustainable live music platforms. 
Nibs loves discovering music from all over the world and counts himself fortunate to have shared the bill in various festivals worldwide with amazing musicians. He has also wisely capitalised on the beautiful, small venues in which he has performed to record some of his works live. He launchedBeautiful Feet in France, an event which gave him a sense of achievement and a belief in his destiny. He followed this with the double CD Driving North, Crossing Borders, a collection of old and new compositions, featuring collaborations with old friends as well as solo performances. 
Come and listen to Nibs Van Der Spuy - he will be performing under the Concerts SA banner at Durban’s popular KZNSA Gallery on Friday 27 June at 19h00 and at Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 28 at 14h00. Film Festival in Durban


Refugee social services in conjunction with other Durban based organizations have all come together to commemorate world Refugee day on the 20th of June by hosting Forced to Flee - a week long series of events in and around Durban which will include a mini film festival; photography; visual art; original music; craft and discussions. So come on down to any of the exciting events that have been planned throughout the week. Watch a movie, view some art and listen to live music as you drink in the experience and vibrancy that comes from the unique melting pot of cultures, and people that Durban has attracted. These events will be free and open to the public so forget your wallet at home and bring the family for an eye opening experience that will bring you closer to your fellow man.

Join Cindy Pivacic and Lisa Smart-Campos for a Vintage Flair Affair



Aid My Journey-Support and PiNCorg Go Vintage.



   
Two local NPO founders, Cindy Pivacic of AID MY JOURNEY SUPPORT and Lisa Smart-Campos of PiNCorg (People investing in our communities) have united in raising funds for their non-profit organisations and creating awareness about HIV & Aids and Cancer. The theme of the event is VINTAGE FLAIR AFFAIR which will be held at the Durban Country Club on Friday 06 June 2014 at 19h30.
Cindy Pivacic is a Speaker, Trainer, Counsellor, Author and Activist on HIV & Aids. In 2011 she founded a centre for people living with HIV & Aids to assist them in skills development and knowledge to empower them to get back into the workforce.
Lisa Smart-Campos co-founded PiNC with, Dario Campos in June 2010 to represent five main aspects of raising awareness and socio-economic relevance in South Africa, assisting communities, families and individuals along with various skills developments within KZN and Gauteng. The funds raised from this event will go towards the Computer Skills Initiative for the unemployed and the Bra and Panty drive for underprivileged girls.  
The theme colour for the event is pink and red and the dress code is, vintage. GO BIG! The function will include live entertainment, a fashion show, dancers, raffles and an auction. The evening festivities include a buffet dinner.  Tickets are R 750 pp.
Sponsors for goodie bags, prizes and venue fees are welcome.

This open air market is in the heart of Pretoria's Old East.
They are passionate about food and have over 70 stalls on the night.
