Opportunity for Musicians and Singers

Looking for professional and established contract musicians and vocalists for 3 very exclusive corporate events in August. These events are in and around Johannesburg, so candidates based in Gauteng are preferred.
You will need to submit a short recent CV, a showreel or some mp3 clips of your recent work, and a head shot.
Please remember to include proper contact details with your application.
Specifically looking for the following:
* string quartet (light classical/pop);
* 1 x black female gospel vocalist (ideal candidate must be charismatic and familiar with traditional African gospel);
* 1 x black female opera singer (light classical soprano - must be able to sing in English and Setswana);
* 1 x black female vocalist (soprano - must be stylistically versatile and be familiar with and able to cover jazz/Broadway/pop genres);

Jakob
Seabrooks Theatre, DHS: 18 - 29 June
Jakob is a different boy and different isn’t good in the world in which he lives.  But in this beautiful, sensitive piece, actor Bryan Hiles portrays this unusual and endearing character and we find out just how ‘different’ can be unique and special. Follow this unusual boy’s journey from loathing and fear to one of light and unconditional love, and find your hearts being warmed, softened and lightened. 
Jakob is a modern day fable, a story of light and darkness, love and hate and redemption adapted from the short story written by Michael Broderick and beautifully crafted and lit by Michael Broderick. 
It runs from 18 - 29 June at the DHS Seabrooks Theatre nightly at 7.30pm, opening onWednesday 18 and running until Sunday 29. Wed to Sat at 19h30 and Sun at 18h00. No shows on Mon or Tues. Nibs van der Spuy

Guitarist / songwriter Nibs Van Der Spuy is hedging up to his half century and has clocked up decades of experience in the performance field. He will be in KZN on the last weekend of June, performing two concerts sponsored by Concerts SA, a joint South African/Norwegian initiative which supports venues and artists in South Africa by creating sustainable live music platforms. 
Nibs loves discovering music from all over the world and counts himself fortunate to have shared the bill in various festivals worldwide with amazing musicians. He has also wisely capitalised on the beautiful, small venues in which he has performed to record some of his works live. He launchedBeautiful Feet in France, an event which gave him a sense of achievement and a belief in his destiny. He followed this with the double CD Driving North, Crossing Borders, a collection of old and new compositions, featuring collaborations with old friends as well as solo performances. 
Come and listen to Nibs Van Der Spuy - he will be performing under the Concerts SA banner at Durban’s popular KZNSA Gallery on Friday 27 June at 19h00 and at Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 28 at 14h00. Film Festival in Durban


Refugee social services in conjunction with other Durban based organizations have all come together to commemorate world Refugee day on the 20th of June by hosting Forced to Flee - a week long series of events in and around Durban which will include a mini film festival; photography; visual art; original music; craft and discussions. So come on down to any of the exciting events that have been planned throughout the week. Watch a movie, view some art and listen to live music as you drink in the experience and vibrancy that comes from the unique melting pot of cultures, and people that Durban has attracted. These events will be free and open to the public so forget your wallet at home and bring the family for an eye opening experience that will bring you closer to your fellow man.

Gauteng Opera is holding chorus auditions on 29 March, State Theatre, Pretoria.

Call for Designer Practitioners: City Ward Co-Design Workshop
The City of Cape Town is looking for design practitioners and students who would like to be actively involved in their World Design Capital 2014 programme, the City Ward Co-Design Workshops. This is your opportunity to learn more about the participatory methodologies, embrace design thinking as a way of working, and work closely with other citizens of Cape Town in a hands-on co-creation environment.



Online Designer: Freelance position – Cape Town
The Media24 Magazines Digital Division is looking for an online designer to assist with short term assignments. The ideal candidate should be an exceptional creative designer who can work on innovative digital, mobile, social and advertising campaigns.
COMPETENCIES, KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS
• A minimum of one year experience as a layout artist within a media environment
• Previous experience in an editorial environment will serve as a strong recommendation
• A portfolio showcasing previous designs
• Has working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
• Development of creative assets
• Provide concepts and graphics from creative briefs provided by senior managers
• Organisation and design of image development
• Development of free-format HTML pages containing editorial content from creative briefs
• Ensure that final product reflects requirements before delivery to the e-Commerce team
