CURATOR OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Basic Salary: R246 396 – R333 372 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Masters degree in History of Art or Fine Art | Relevant experience working in an art museum with a proven record of research and publication | Proven track record of exhibitions locally and/or internationally | Particular interest and curatorial experience in contemporary South African art | Computer literacy.
Key Responsibilities include: Deliver on curatorial functions in relation to the collections of contemporary paintings, including regularly identifying works for acquisition and conservation | Communicate specialist research findings to the public through publications, exhibitions, popular articles, website and public programmes such as guided tours and panel discussions | Negotiate, handle and manage artworks for temporary and touring exhibitions, to and from other institutions, nationally and abroad, and acting as courier when required | Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and other related work in the gallery | Submit monthly reports on outputs and activities | Flexibility to assist in other curatorial departments when required | Mentor colleagues, interns, trainees and volunteers.
COLLECTIONS MANAGER: ART
Basic Salary: R198 228 – R268 164 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Three-year fine art or art history degree or technical diploma, or equivalent qualification; post-graduate qualification an advantage | Museum experience managing a collection and successfully working in a team | Good ccommunication skills, both verbal and written | Computer proficiency in database, MS Word, MS Excel, Internet and e-mail and database programmes | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Supervise management, development and care of the collections | Manage staff in the Collections department | Control access to collections | Negotiate, handle and manage artworks for temporary and touring exhibitions, to and from other institutions, nationally and abroad, and acting as courier when required | Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and other related work in the gallery | Understand ethical issues relating to collections | Identify and manage risks to the collections | Prepare and manage a budget related to collections and conservation of collection | Write reports and regularly revise procedure manuals related to collections.

COLLECTION & EXHIBITIONS TECHNICAL ASSISTANT: ART (three-year contract)
Basic Salary: R74 064 – R100 176 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Grade 12 | Experience working with museum collections | Physically able to lift large/heavy artworks | Technical knowledge of display techniques, lighting, mounting | Code 10 Driver’s licence | Experience of working with collections records and stocktaking an advantage.
Key Responsibilities include: Assist in the maintenance of records and stocktaking | Assist with packing and unpacking of collection material | General assistance in storage areas | Assist with the preparation of objects for display | Clean collection material in storage and on display | Assist with preventative conservation of objects | Install, de-install and maintain exhibitions | Mount and prepare artwork from the collections for exhibition | Manufacture display cases and boxes for permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities include: Assist with the records management of the Art Collections including ongoing maintenance and stocktaking | Delivering on the functions of a Collections and Registrar Assistant | Keeping abreast of database technology and theory | Keeping the acquisitions registers up to date | Assisting with developing a centralised electronic collections management system | Assisting colleagues in both departments and the general public with information and support as required.
NATURAL HISTORY
COLLECTIONS MANAGER TERRESTRIAL VERTEBRATES
Basic Salary: R198 228 – R268 164 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: B Sc majoring in Zoology or similar | At least three years' experience relating to collections management | Broad knowledge of vertebrate zoology | Computer literacy | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Managing all facets of the terrestrial vertebrate collections, including storage and retrieval systems, databases, access, loan administration, conservation, and documentation of new collection material | Educating the public on topics relating to terrestrial vertebrates | Writing reports and articles | Assisting with exhibition development.
ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN (one-year contract)
Basic Salary: R125 928 – R170 376 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Diploma in Library Science | Knowledge of SABINET would be an advantage | At least one year’s experience of working in a library | Knowledge of generic library systems and procedures | Computer literate, particularly in database systems | Ability to write reports and articles | Able to communicate effectively | Knowledge of archiving procedures would be useful | Knowledge of image archiving and management would be useful.
Key Responsibilities include: Ensure that all new material is catalogued and the records are added to the catalogue database | Undertake searches of the library database and online, using the Internet or SABINET | Update holdings in SABINET | Assist librarian as needed | Assist with stock taking.
SOCIAL HISTORY
CURATOR
Basic Salary: R246 396 – R333 372 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Masters degree relevant to SA Social History | Familiarity with critical studies in museum interpretation and collections | Understanding of museum-community interactions | At least three years’ experience working in a museum with proven ability to manage projects | Relevant museological knowledge with a proven record of research excellence and publication | Computer literacy | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Delivering on curatorial functions in relation to the Social History collections with the Bo-Kaap Museum as an interpretative focus | Communicating specialist research findings to the public through publications, exhibitions, popular articles, website and public programmes | Assisting with special projects related to collections.
CURATOR OF PRE-COLONIAL ARCHAEOLOGY
Basic Salary: R246 396 – R333 372 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Masters degree or higher in Archaeology | At least three years’ experience of pre-colonial archaeological research and collections management | Knowledge base in stone age archaeology and rock art | Publication record | Comprehensive knowledge of relevant heritage legislation and procedures | Knowledge of excavation techniques | Computer literacy | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities: Management and growth of Iziko archaeology collections | Research in stone age archaeology and rock art | Communicating research findings to the public through peer-reviewed and popular publications, exhibitions, web pages and public programmes |?Raising funds for research and collections development | Overseeing digitisation of collections | Managing Archaeology team | Managing Physical Anthropology collection research and repatriation.
COLLECTIONS MANAGER
Basic Salary: R198 228 – R268 164 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: A three-year degree, technical diploma or equivalent experience relevant to historical or heritage studies | A postgraduate qualification would be an advantage | At least three years' experience of managing collections and with a record of an ability to work in a team | Computer literate in MS Word, MS Excel with a key requirement being a knowledge of database programmes, digitisation of images and storage of digital collections information | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Supervising/entering information onto the database, linking the images to database; incorporating aspects of research as required | Provide training on subject for other staff | Supervise editing and checking database and digital image entries | Ensuring that new acquisitions are motivated according to procedural guidelines | Registering new items and adding information to database, inventories and lists as appropriate | Compiling of loan agreements | Drafting relevant collections guidelines and policies.

Key Responsibilities include: Ensure that new acquisitions are motivated according to procedural guidelines | Draft relevant policies and collections guidelines | Keep record of object location on list, cards and database to ensure easy retrieval | Evaluate loan request in terms of risks and benefits to collection | Retrieve objects for exhibitions, loans and research | Mentor and coach collections staff.

Basic Salary: R82.00 per hour, three half days per week.
Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree with diploma in education or Teachers degree/diploma in education | At least three years’ experience in the teaching of natural history and/or art and/or social history | Knowledge of museum education and public programmes | Understanding of CAPS | Computer literacy | Experience in facilitating interactive youth programmes | Driver’s licence.

AUDIOVISUAL SERVICES ASSISTANT
Basic Salary: R101 436 – R137 268 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Grade 12 with a recognised qualification in electronic and/or audiovisual installation and maintenance would be an advantage | Computer literate at an intermediate level | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Assist manager with installations of exhibitions | Maintenance of audiovisual equipment used in displays across all sites | Liaise with staff/external clients requiring audiovisual backup | Keep record of equipment on loan | Maintain asset register and condition of equipment | Assist in running audiovisual systems and with show production in planetarium.
PLANETARIUM OPERATOR (one year part-time contract)
Basic Salary: R60.53 per hour
Requirements: Grade 12 with a recognised teaching qualification, with experience in Science and an interest in Astronomy.
Key Responsibilities include: Run planetarium shows | Develop educational resources and assist with show maintenance | Assist planetarium outreach officer with facilitating outreach presentations.

CASHBOOK ADMINISTRATOR
Basic Salary: R101 436 – R137 268 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Grade 12 | A bookkeeping certificate would be an advantage | Three years’ experience in cashbook administration | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Maintenance of the cashbook module in ACCPAC | Ensure that all monies collected are receipted and deposited | Allocation and capturing of payments and receipts for cashbook | Update of the remittance register | Preparations of bank deposits | Follow up of direct deposits and debit orders | Reconciliation of cash and electronic payments | Bank reconciliation | Updating and reconciling the cashbook to the bank statement.

Basic Salary: R329 220 – R445 428 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: A qualification in Property, Project or Museum Management | At least eight years’ relevant experience in managing projects, customer services, property, disaster management, health, safety and security, of which at least five years must be at senior management level | Experience and knowledge of people management and labour relations | Knowledge of the management of heritage sites would be an advantage | Sound knowledge of relevant legislation | Computer literate at intermediate level | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Give strategic direction to the management of customer care, property, disaster management, health, safety and security functions, as well as conservation, maintenance and capital works programmes | Develop, implement, monitor and revise customer care, property management, disaster management, health, safety and security policies and procedures | Manage the Customer Services Department along sound leadership, financial and people management principles and in accordance with legislation and policies | Develop close professional ties with strategic partners | Manage the departmental budget | Report on the strategic direction and activities of the department.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree | Computer literate in Ms Office Suite, Ms Project, Ms Access | Training in fundraising and advancement| Minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising, business development and social entrepreneurship | Understanding local and international fundraising landscape including corporate sponsorship | Proficient in researching donor strategy, proposal writing, relationship management, reporting and database management | Driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Planning, developing and implementing fundraising campaigns aligned with strategy | Researching, updating and maintaining donor database | Writing proposals and budgets | Preparing presentations | Cultivation and liaison with potential donors | Assisting with acknowledgement, stewardship and reporting to funders on active projects | Collation of data regarding fundraising and partnerships across the institution | Ensuring consistent quality of applications, proposals and reports by all staff members involved in fundraising.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The salaries quoted above do not include benefits. Iziko benefits comprise generous contributions towards a designated retirement fund (compulsory), a designated medical aid (voluntary) and a housing subsidy (voluntary). Other employment conditions such as working hours and leave entitlement are also generous.
